How volunteers are helping prep Richmond students for virtual learning

RICHMOND, Va. -- An area non-profit helped hundreds of Richmond families prepare for the upcoming virtual school year Saturday.

WTVR CBS 6 profiled the non-profit group, Just C, who were collecting donations for this effort to give students what they needed to create a workspace at home, when our own Shelby Brown donated to their fundraiser as part of CBS 6 Gives.

Volunteers started handing out those supplies Saturday in the parking lot of John Marshall High School.

Just C’s founder, Chenice Johnson, said they served almost 300 kids.

An area non-profit helped hundreds of Richmond families prepare for the upcoming virtual school year Saturday.

"So the benefit is they’ll be able to create a personal learning space at home being that they’re having to adjust to the new normal," Johnson said. "Today, we gave out food bags, lap desks, tray desks, and also desks that kids can use that are portable."

Johnson said they will hold another giveaway next Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. also in the John Marshall High parking lot.
